Did you know that up to 1 million children in the UK currently have an undetected vision problem?
Can your child see properly?
Poor eyesight can have a significant effect on children’s ability to learn at school, poor vision is often not recognised by teachers, parents and by children themselves. Children may not be aware or may not be able to explain their vision difficulties and – as a parent – you may not notice any problems.
The sooner you have you child’s vision corrected the sooner the clear vision will help your child in their daily activities. Many childhood eye conditions, such as lazy eye and squint, can be treated if they are picked up early – as the eye and visual system are actively developing during the school years. If vision problems are identified and treated, it can make a difference that lasts a lifetime.
Include a sight test in your ‘back to school’ routine
Parents are right to think that their child will have had their vision checked at school, however this does not happen all the time. An eye test at school does not often involve a full and complete examination therefore it is important to have your child checked by an Optometrist. Children are often very good at masking their eye problems. Vision screening can pick up children with reduced vision in a lot of cases, however it cannot detect more subtle issues or if a child needs glasses, very often conditions such as Hypermetropia (longsightedness) or Astigmatism is often missed. At Roots Opticians our Optometrists make every effort to advise you in regards to your child’s vision. Remember your child is often entitled to a free eye examination on the NHS.
A sight test is FREE! – why not have one? Eye tests are free for all children under the age of 16 at Roots Opticians. Some parents feel that their child is too young or will struggle reading the eye test chart. At Roots Opticians we have a picture chart designed specifically for young children. If your child is too young to identify these, the Optometrist has other skills up his sleeve to identify any possible eye problems your child may have.
So don’t delay book your eye test on 0121 328 5700 and we will try and book your children in at a convenient time.
